GSA narrows search for new courthouse location to 2 sites
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The U.S. General Services Administration has narrowed the site for a new federal courthouse in Chattanooga to a pair of finalists.
The two locations are on Hawk Hill (Lookouts Stadium site) and the TVA office complex.
Over the weekend, both mayors Tim Kelly and Weston Wamp endorsed the TVA site as their preferred site.
The Lookouts are planning on moving into a new stadium near the old Wheland Plant and TVA is moving out of their office space that straddles Broad Street downtown.
The federal government needs a replacement for current courthouse that is now more than 90 years old.
The new facility will include seven courtrooms, nine chambers and 40 secured parking spaces.
The GSA evaluated four options, which included doing nothing.
They eliminated a site on 8th Street.
GSA officials now say they won’t announce a final choice for the new courthouse until this fall.
