Gun safety tips from the CPD

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Chattanooga Police shared gun safety tips on Wednesday, following the accidental shooting that happened earlier this week.

A one-year-old was accidentally shot in the leg on March 2.

It happened on the 2500 Block of Ocoee Street, near Dodson Avenue.

The CPD said being responsible with a gun will help prevent accidental shootings in the future.

“We want to remind our gun owners to be responsible gun owners and to make sure they secure weapons appropriately, especially when we have children in the house,” said Executive Chief Harry Sommers.

Chief Celeste Murphy also added that firearms should be secured properly while in possession.

The police department is still investigating the shooting.
