Hamilton County chase results in two injuries, one arrest
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Hamilton County deputies were pursuing a vehicle early Friday morning when that vehicle crashed into an electrical pole. Now, two people are injured and one has been arrested.
A deputy saw a silver sedan speeding on Bonny Oaks Drive around 2 a.m. on December 29 and attempted to stop the car. However, authorities said the driver then sped off and started driving recklessly.
They said the car drove into oncoming traffic, passed other cars in a no-passing zone and reached speeds of 100 mph. The deputy then lost sight of the car on New York Avenue.
The deputy then saw a “large electrical surge and sparks from what appeared to be an electrical pole,” HCSO said in a press release.
HCSO said the car had struck an electrical pole and rolled over onto its top. The electrical pole broke in half as well.
Deputies took the driver, who they have not yet identified, into custody. The driver had injuries which were not life-threatening.
However, there was a passenger in the car who was injured and in “critical but stable condition,” according to the sheriff’s office. First responders took the passenger to a hospital.
The HCSO is charging the driver with these charges:
- Reckless driving
- Felony evading
- Reckless endangerment
- DUI
- Driving on a revoked license
- Speeding and violation of traffic control device
Authorities say there may be more charges coming as well.
