Hamilton County commissioner will not face charges after audit

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — State prosecutors say they will not file criminal charges against Hamilton County Commissioner Warren Mackey.

A state audit investigation questioned his claim of more than $27,000 in expenses as a commissioner.

Yet, the Tennessee District Attorneys Conference has decided there were no violations of law involved.

As a result of the audit, the commission changed their policies on district offices which was the central complaint against Mackey.

The state district attorney group made the call since local DA Coty Wamp was recused from the decision.

“After a thorough review of the Comptroller’s investigative findings, as well as a consideration of the actions of the Hamilton County Commission on May 1, 2024, General Dunavant declined criminal prosecution in this matter, and asked the Comptroller’s Division of Investigations to close their file. Therefore, the final charging decision has been concluded, and there will be no further statement on this matter.”
