Hamilton County Commissioners Hand Out Discretionary Funds

Chattanooga (WDEF) Hamilton County Commissioners on Tuesday voted to spend another hundred thousand dollars of discretionary spending.

Such funds have been a bone of contention this year, after County Mayor Jim Coppinger tried to eliminate them in this year’s budget.

On Tuesday, Commissioners spent money on the Orange Grover Center, Veterans Park in Soddy Daisy, Walden’s Ridge Emergency Services among others.

Here is the full list of Tuesday’s appropriations, by district:

$30,000     Walden’s Ridge Emergency Services       District 2

$10,000     Orange Grove Center                           District 9

$10,000     Orange Grove Center                           District 7

$10,000     Orange Grove Center                           District 4

$6,000      Sculpture Fields at Montague Park          District 4

$2,500      Southeast Tenn Health Consortium         District 4

$3,000     Stop the Madness National, Inc              District 4

$1,000     Churchville Neighborhood Association      District 4

$1,500     Community Foundation of Greater Chatt   District 4

$11,350   Veterans Memorial Park in Soddy Daisy   District 1

$6,400    Bakewell Community Center                   District 1

Hamilton is the only county in Tennessee that reserves discretionary funds for commissioners to hand out in their districts.
        
Hamilton County Commissioners also passed a pair of ordinances empowering the mayor to negotiate a new pilot agreement with Gestamp Chattanooga to help with building improvements.
