Hamilton County Fair kicking off on Friday

SALE CREEK, Tenn. (WDEF) – The Hamilton County Fair is making its return this weekend.

Old McDonald’s Farm is welcoming visitors to its grounds for its largest event ever.

The petting zoo operator for the fair, Art McDonald, said, “This is what we always wanted to be able to do, and it’s happening.”

From the high above on the fair’s Ferris wheel, you can get a grasp of the size of this year’s fair.

To the petting zoo, and other attractions in between, the Hamilton County Fair is ready for action.

McDonald said, “And one of the reasons I continue to do this, I love to see the young kids come in. Folks who have never been around farms or farm animals.”

McDonald has worked on the farm for years and is excited to show off the farm’s collection of livestock to visitors.

These include rare species of chickens including Ayam Cemanis (SEE-MON-KNEES) and the Swedish Flower.

McDonald said, “They’re quite colorful and I think they’re really pretty, fairly friendly too.”

There are a variety of animals you can pet here at the Hamilton County Fair including cattle, pigs, horses, and other animals.

On the menu, in addition to the food vendors, is a lot of Little Debbie snacks, because they are a title sponsor.

On Sunday afternoon, they will feature the world’s largest Oatmeal Creme Pie that you can try for yourself.

McKee’s Communications Director Mike Gloekler described the pie as “It comes in at about 120 pounds, it is a double decker, we’ve never done a double decker of this size before.”

Gates opened at 5 p.m. Friday evening and will open at 11 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

Brandon Davis and Lauren Alania headline on Saturday evening.

The rodeo is Friday evening and Saturday afternoon.

There is a chili cook-off and a pie eating contest as well.

The whole fair wraps up with a fireworks show on Sunday evening.
