Hamilton County honors the career of Chief Deputy Charles Lowery, Jr.

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Hamilton county commissioners paused this morning to honor a long-time member of the sheriff’s department.

By resolution, the commission recognized the career of Chief Deputy Charles Lowery, Jr.

Lowery is a 41-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, who retired 2 months ago..but was hired back as a part time employee to continue to manage the child car seat program…which he started.

Chief Deputy Lowery also marked several “firsts” during his long career.

“You just don’t realize the people that you impact throughout your life. Some people come back and say thanks…a lot of people don’t and to be recognized by the county commission for years of service is just a humbling experience.”

Lowery was the first African American with a college degree hired by the HCSO, and was its first African American school resource officer and motorcycle traffic investigator.
