Hamilton County mayoral term limits put on hold
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- A resolution to introduce term limits for the Hamilton County Mayor has been tabled by the Commission.
Mayor Weston Wamp proposed that the position would be limited to two terms.
He told News 12 last week he would like for county residents to get to vote on the issue in a referendum.
However, Commissioner Lee Helton motioned for the resolution to be tabled.
He explained that for such a fundamental change in county government, he would like more time to consider its impact.
“On the surface, I support term limits. I think it is probably a good thing for some offices to have them. However, I think there’s some items that are not clear with this resolution,” said Helton.
For this resolution to be reconsidered, a supermajority of commissioners will have to vote to bring it back up again.
