Hamilton County offers new emergency alert service

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management is rolling out a new emergency alert system.

Through a partnership with Regroup Mass Notification, the service will allow the Hamilton County 911 to issue alerts that are geo-located to your account.

For example, if an emergency only affected Sale Creek, only system users in that area would receive the alert.

HCOEM believes having this service will streamline communications and help the county be more responsive during crises.

“It’s only as good as the amount of people that sign up. We tried this years ago and we had a dismal response. So, we think that now our county has seen we can have pretty much any kind of incident you can have, and we need to be prepared. Just like all of our partners here with all the training exercises that we do,” said Chris Adams, Director of the Hamilton County Emergency Management.

Adams, Mayor Weston Wamp and Mayor Tim Kelly are urging the community to sign up for these alerts.

Regroup allows users to receive text, email and phone alerts regarding emergency incidents in their area. Some reasons for mass notifications could be active shooters, hazmat incidents, missing person, flooded or closed streets, and shelter in place alerts.

Those interested can sign up for emergency alerts here.
