Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department Gets Aegis Firearms Simulator
The money has been raised from donors and the Hamilton county sheriff’s department now has an Aegis Firearms simulator.
That sophisticated training device was demonstrated Wednesday morning, and here’s how it works and how officers can benefit from it.
Let’s say you’re an officer and you find yourself in this tense scenario. What would you do?
The officer responded correctly, but he can replay his actions on the Aegis simulator just to make sure.
DEPUTY BLAKE KILPATRICK, TRAINING OFFICER ” Here we have the capability, if I do use deadly force, to see where the shots went, why I pulled the trigger..actually breakdown and discuss and get a good thorough meaning of it all”
The simulator was dedicated Wednesday morning at the sheriff’s substation on Dayton boulevard.
It will be available 24 hours a day to deputies, but also to other police agencies.
CHIEF TIM CHRISTOL, RED BANK POLICE “In this room we videotape everything that’s going on. We can replay their actions afterwards. the instructor can talk to the student about why they did what they did.”
The Chattanooga police department has a similar machine on order.
The seventy five thousand dollars for this one was raised through the Aegis Law Enforcement Foundation from donors like business owner Ben Cruz.
BENIGNO CRUZ, DONOR “I think we need more…a little contribution to help the community, how to be safe and be a good place to live in.”
Sheriff Hammond says most officers won’t use their weapons more than once or twice in their entire careers.
SHERIFF HAMMOND “Law enforcement has a difficult job..do we make mistakes, absolutely! Can we afford to make mistakes..no! But they happen with people..but by getting this kind of skill..and honing of this skill , it vastly improves our ability to do our job properly.”
