Hamilton County Jail Inmate Sues Sheriff's Office Over Assault

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) —  The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is investigating an in-custody death.

At 4:55 a.m., May 6, 2025, an HCSO corrections deputy requested medical assistance for an unresponsive inmate in the Delta Housing Unit.

Upon arrival, crews began performing life-saving medical aid.

The inmate, Christopher Dewayne Ohara, was transported to a local hospital.

He was unfortunately pronounced deceased later on that day.

According to HCSO, Ohara was arrested on May 3, 2025 for the following charges:

  • Driving on a Revoked or Suspended License
  • Driving under the Influence.

HCSO’s preliminary investigation suggests the incident was likely a medical emergency, and there were no indications of foul play, trauma, or drug use.
