Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office investigating shooting involving Chattanooga Police Officer

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an officer involved shooting on 15th Avenue.

Officials say someone reported that a suspect was walking in the street, shooting at houses. The Chattanooga Police Department’s press release says officers approached the “armed male suspect” and shots were fired.

The suspect was shot and sustained life-threatening injuries.

He died from his injuries after being transported by Hamilton County EMS.

Per Chattanooga Police Department policy, all officers responding to the call have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.

Hamilton County Sheriff Office will be handling the criminal investigation.
