Hamilton County students’ proficiency levels increase despite low numbers
HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — There has been an update regarding Hamilton County Schools’ 2022-2023 TCAP scores.
Back in May, Tennessee Department of Education data suggested that the majority of third-grade students failed to meet the state proficiency level.
We previously reported that “only 40% of students scored at a proficient or exceptional level. This means 60% of third grade students will be subjected to the third-grade retention law.”
Now, Hamilton County Schools has released additional data regarding TCAP scores.
They say Hamilton County students overall performed above the state average in 79% of areas.
Additionally, the school system stated that third-grade proficiency levels have increased from the past year. Science proficiency increased the most, at 9% since the previous year, according to the data.
“While there are still areas of improvement for HCS, testing data shows increased achievement of Hamilton County students over the rest of the state in many areas,” HCS press release said.
