Hamilton County traffic stop leads to a brief vehicle pursuit

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – On Friday, March 7, 2025, Hamilton County deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop that ended up leading to a brief vehicle pursuit.

At approximately 2:00 p.m., Hamilton County deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a black Ford Fusion traveling south on Hixson Pike.

The driver refused to comply, leading to a brief vehicle pursuit that ended near the 8900 block of Peach Street.

The suspect then exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Deputies pursued the suspect behind a residence and into a wooded area, issuing verbal commands to stop, which the suspect ignored.

To gain compliance, deputies deployed a taser, allowing them to take the suspect safely into custody.

The suspect was later identified as Thomas Jones, who was transported to the Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center.

He is facing charges for the following offenses:

  • Felony Evading Arrest
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Seatbelt Violation
  • Light Law Violation

Additionally, authorities discovered that Jones had nine active warrants from Hamilton County Sessions Court and Criminal Court for the following charges:

  • Aggravated Assault (Hamilton County Criminal Court)
  • Felony Theft of Property (Hamilton County Criminal Court)
  • Violation of Driver’s License Law (Hamilton County Sessions Court)
  • Aggravated Assault (Hamilton County Sessions Court)
  • Aggravated Burglary (Hamilton County Sessions Court)
  • Vandalism (Hamilton County Sessions Court)
  • Domestic Assault (Hamilton County Sessions Court)
  • Theft of Property (Hamilton County Sessions Court)
  • False Imprisonment (Hamilton County Sessions Court)

Jones was also found to have multiple open warrants through the City of Soddy Daisy.
