HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) —  Hamilton County has been awarded a little over $248,000 to expand its Youth Employment Program.

These funds were provided by the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

The funding supports job placements and paid internships for Hamilton County students and young adults starting this summer.

Youth employment programs have proven to be effective in preparing the next generation for the workforce.  We’re grateful for the state’s continued commitment to youth across our state, and proud to be the county government in Tennessee providing valuable job experiences to high school and college students through this program.”

-Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp

In 2024, the program provided 130 students with real-world work experience, and distributing over $270,000 in wages.

The internships available vary by type and include positions in Development Services, Health, and Economic Development.

Those who participate in the program must be between the ages of 16 and 24.

Participants can work up to 25 hours a week, and earn up to $3,500 throughout the program.

These young adults will also receive job coaching, resume support, and training in workplace readiness.

Local businesses can also participate, and will be reimbursed for youth wages.
