Hamilton Heights Faced Duke Dunking Dynamo Zion Williamson During His High School Days
Duke freshman Zion Williamson has taken college basketball by storm with his powerful dunks, and Hamilton Heights saw the tidal wave coming.
They faced the 6’7, 285-pound leaping legend two years ago in a tournament.
And while the Hawks won the game against Spartanburg Day School, Zion won the crowd.
Said Hamilton Heights head coach Zach Ferrell:”It was either the game before or two games before that he had I think 50, and he had 18 dunks..in the game. First play of the game. They throw a back-side lob to him for a dunk. We’re all just looking at each other like guys. This is. Everybody in the world knows this play is coming.”
Reporter:”What was it that made him a little bit at another level?”
Said Hamilton Heights guard Jordan Rawls:”I think it’s the weight too. Very strong. He can bounce off people, and then jump really high too.”
Said Ferrell:”It’s his second jump. His second explosion that can be so unbelievable. He gets down and off the ground so quick.”
Said Rawls:”The rim would shake for a couple of possessions. I felt like. I remember when he dunked. It kind of felt like the whole gym shook.”
Reporter:”How many dunks do you think he had when he played you guys?”
Said Ferrell:”I think he had four or five dunks when he played us. But one thing that was impressive was he had great feel and touch around the rim.”
Reporter:”Did you get in the back of your mind. Man I want to throw one down too?”
Said Rawls:”Oh yeah sometimes you would think that. Your dunk is not going to be no where near his. Might as well just get the two points.” (chuckles)
