Hard Work Leads to Another SoCon Award For Mocs Jay Person
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) Mocs edge rusher Jay Person was voted the SoCon Defensive Player of the Year this week.
It’s the second straight year the Bradley Central grad has won the prestigious honor.
Person led the league in both sacks (8.5) and tackles for a loss (16).
Said head coach Rusty Wright:”Jay actually worked harder this offseason. Bulked up. Did some things. Tried to improve his game for sure. He worked hard at it.”
Said Person:”I wanted to keep my speed and everything like that, but I wanted to get my size up bigger, so I have an edge on other players, especially like some of the bigger teams like Alabama. Big time teams in the SoCon. And then I felt like it helped me out trying to get to the next level and everything like that.”
Said offensive lineman Griffin McDowell:”As far as quickness and strength, he has got everything in the belt. Obviously it was awesome he was given that award because he deserved it.”
Person will try to add to his totals Saturday as Chattanooga travels to Austin Peay for the opening round of the FCS playoffs.
