HCSO campaign aims to make people aware of hot car dangers

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — In light of a recent infant death, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind people the dangers of hot cars.

As part of the “Look Before You Lock” program, the sheriff’s office created yellow inside removable door decals that can be placed on the inside of the driver door, to remind parents to check on their children as they exit the car.

Deputies set up a patrol car with dual thermometers showing the temperature inside and outside the car. On Monday, the inside was about 30 degrees hotter than outside the car.

“I think the thing that always amazes me is the people who say well that would never happen. I am always careful about that and I am only in there a minute and all of these excuses. It happens to good people,” Sheriff Jim Hammond said.

A marked Patrol Unit will be at the Hixson Walmart Tuesday, July 11, through Thursday, July 13, displaying the dual thermometers.
