CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – On Tuesday evening, a Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office deputy pursued a stolen vehicle on Highway 153 South and later pursued on foot when the suspect fled the scene.

At around 6 P.M., the deputy patrolling the 5500 block of Highway 153 was alerted by the Automatic License Plate Reader of a stolen white Ford F-150 in the area.

The vehicle was located in a shopping center parking lot. It had been reported stolen in a carjacking incident earlier this month and the suspects were known to potentially be armed.

The deputy tracked the stolen vehicle and the driver attempted to evade by accelerating onto Highway 153 South. A traffic stop was initiated, but the suspect continued to flee. After a brief vehicle pursuit, the vehicle stopped on Gadd Road.

The suspect then exited the vehicle and began to flee on foot. However, the suspect was apprehended following the deployment of a taser.

Hamilton County EMS responded to asses the suspect before he was transported to the Hamilton County Jail.

The suspect has been identified as 51-year-old Demetrius Levon Freeman. He faces charges including Felony Evading, Driving on a Suspended License, and Possession of Stolen Property.

The Chattanooga Police Department is continuing their investigation of the initial carjacking.

No further details are available at this time.
