HCSO observes National Boating Safety Week
This is National Safe Boating week and as we approach the first holiday of the summer season the Hamilton county Sheriff’s department has some tips for you and your family.
Officers gathered at Chester Frost Park today to call for a renewed effort to avoid tragedies this year..
“It is an honor for us to roll out our two marine boats that we like to show off. We’re beginning to come into that season where we’re going to have a lot of boaters out here on the lake, a lot of swimmers, a lot of sun-bathers,” said Sheriff Jim Hammond.
“It’s a fun time, but it’s a dangerous time. We want folks to be cognizant of that when they’re out on the water.”
“Deputy Killingsworth with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s office, would it be alright if we performed a safety check on you, on your boat? Please, sir?”
Hammond: “When you’re going to go out in a boat, first of all be sure that uh, the boat meets all the safety checks.”
“Oh, I’m having a great day out here today.”
Hammond: “That you’ve got enough of the life vests on board, the flotation device.”
“Do you have your uh, PFD? Absolutely. I got six.”
Hammond: “That you’re not consuming alcohol if you’re driving the boat.”
