HCSO Recognizes National Correctional Officers & Employees Week
This week is National Correctional Officers & Employees Week and in recognition of this designation, Sheriff Austin Garrett and the men and women of the HCSO would like to recognize our Corrections Services personnel who work tirelessly in the Hamilton County Jail & Detention Center 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
National Correctional Officers & Employees Month was officially proclaimed by Presidential Proclamation in 1984 as a time to remember the work and sacrifices of America’s corrections officers and employees.
President Ronald Reagan said at the time, “The professionalism, dedication and courage exhibited by these [Correctional] officers throughout the performance of these demanding and often conflicting roles deserves our utmost respect. The important work of correctional officers often does not receive the recognition from the public it deserves. It is appropriate that we honor the many contributions and accomplishments of these men and women who are a vital component of the field of corrections.”
In 1996, Congress expanded National Correctional Officers Week to include all correctional employees, giving a long overdue “Thank You” to all the civilian women and men who serve by working in corrections. This is truly a special week to celebrate and bring awareness to the importance and significance of our profession.
“As we observe National Correctional Officer Week, it’s important to recognize the vital contributions our Corrections Deputies make to our county. Every day, they put their own well-being on the line to ensure the safety of those in our custody and to help keep Hamilton County safe. This nationally designated week offers a moment to pause and express our gratitude to the dedicated professionals who serve in our jail and detention center. As Sheriff, my appreciation extends far beyond this one week — it is constant and never ceasing. I’m proud of the meaningful impact they make every single day, not only within our facility, but throughout the entire county,” stated Sheriff Austin Garrett.
Please join us as we recognize May 4th – 10th as National Correctional Officer and Employees Week and thank our many HCSO Correction Services personnel for the tremendous job they do in keeping our county safe.
