HCSO warns of phone scam

Chattanooga, Tenn. (WDEF) – According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, a scam is on going in the area in which a caller claims to be a law enforcement agency or General Hamilton County Government Office and says that the person has failed to show up for jury duty or has failed to pay bond fees.

The scam caller also claims that the person must call a number and send money via a money order or warrants will be issued leading to an arrest or heavy fines, according to HCSO.

The Sheriff’s office recommends never sending money over the phone nor sending money via money order until verifying with government agencies. The Sheriff’s Office also reminds residents that HCSO communicates by mail, by registered mail, and will never solicit funds over the phone.
