Head of the Hooch Regatta delayed by fog

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee (WDEF)- Thousands of people had to wait a little longer Saturday as The Head of the Hooch Regatta was delayed this morning due to a foggy start to the day.

This was done for safety reasons due to lack of visibility.

Despite the first day of the event belong delayed the 5,000 athletes of high school, college, and other rowers were able to complete the nearly 3 mile course.

“The boat race single file. So they’re racing the clock. It’s not like what you think a traditional race where people are side-by-side and you see who crosses the finish line 1st. They’re literally chasing each other down the river and we capture their start time and finish time and figure out what their lap time is over the course and we compare them in the category of the race that they’re in and that’s how we determine who the winner of the race is.”

There will also be races Sunday with the finish line near Ross landings being one of the places he recommends for seeing the races.
