Heritage Hoping to Grab First Ever Win Over Rival Ringgold

Ringgold, GA (WDEF) – The Heritage high school football program is less than ten years old, but they’ve already enjoyed a winning season and a trip to the playoffs.

But one thing missing on the Generals resume is a win over rival Ringgold.

Heritage gets another crack at posting a win over the Tigers on Friday night.

Heritage high school and Ringgold high school are roughly eight miles apart. So to call their annual rivalry…just another game…really doesn’t make sense.

Said Heritage head coach E.K. Slaughter-“It’s a big game. There’s no question. It’s a heated rivalry. It’s not just another game, but you don’t do anything different to win this game. All still comes down to your same core values and how you win football games.”

Said lineman Tanner Nance-“It’s definitely not just another game. We’ve been open for what eight or nine years now. We still haven’t beat them. This may be our best chance to do it. It’s definitely not just another game.”

Heritage opened in 2008, and they have yet to beat their cross-town rival. Last year, the Generals lost 36-34 as the Tigers intercepted a pass at the goal line in the final minute to seal their win.

Said quarterback Corbee Wilson-“It was just a bad read by me, and I’ve paid the consequences the past nine months, so it will be great to get this one going.”

Obviously, the Generals would like to make history tonight with a win over Ringgold, but just participating in this contest is pretty cool.

Said Nance-“Going from twitter trash talk to practice. It’s awesome. The intensity. The mentality. Everything is great. The atmosphere on Friday night is like you’re at a mini college football game. It’s awesome.”

Since it is a rivalry, there is some friendly ribbing.

Chuckles Wilson-I would probably move before I would go to Ringgold. Just anything to keep from going there.”

Said Nance-“I have a couple of buddies over at Ringgold. They’re texting me and saying they are wishing me luck, and I respect that.”

Reporter-“What are you texting back?”

Nance-“I say good luck back. I’m not much of a trash talker.”
