High Expectations Greet 2015 Lookouts
Chattanooga-(WDEF) We got to meet the new Lookouts on Tuesday at AT&T Field.
It appears Chattanooga will be one of the favorites in the Southern League because the Twins have stocked the Lookouts with half of their top ten prospects.
The talent assembled by the Lookouts this season has a chance to be special.
Just ask manager Doug Mientkiewicz.
Reporter-"Where do the strengths of this team lie right now?"
Said Mientkiewicz,"Everywhere."
Leading the charge is outfielder Byron Buxton, who some rate as the top prospect in all of minor league baseball.
"I don’t pay any attention to it. If you try to play off of expectations, this game will eat you up."
Aaid Mientkiewicz,"Well, he’s athletically gifted, there’s no two ways about it. He reminds me a lot of Tori Hunter’s charisma. I played with Tori a long time. I see a lot of the same personality traits."
Buxton was slowed by injuries last season, hitting .240 with four homers.
"Just stay healthy. That’s my biggest goal. Take it one day at a time. Take this game won pitch at a time. Just come out here and play hard beside my teammates and help us win."
While Buxton and company have talent, the guys will be getting their first taste of double-a action.
Said pitcher Nick Burdi,"Never been in Double-A before, but I’ve heard that it’s more baseball players and not so much prospects anymore. Guys who truly know how to play the game."
Added Mientkiewicz,"Double-A is a tough level. We expect them to struggle early, and it’s just a matter how they handle their struggles."
