High School Football Coaches Sometimes Can’t Miss Sharing Good Quotes
Coaching quotes have been apart of sports for years. Heck, it’s practically the back-bone of the TV show Ted Lasso. The soccer coach is a walking quote machine.
Such as… “I do love a locker room. I smell potential”.
Or.. “I love meeting people’s moms. It’s like reading an instructional manual as to why they’re nuts.”
So are local high school football coaches nuts about coaching quotes?
Reporter:”Are you a big quote guy?”
Said LaFayette head coach Andy Scott:”Oh I’m a huge quote guy. Big. Christianity. Stoicism. David Goggins. Jocko Willink. All those guys. For us we talk about the key to a great life is a great day repeated as many times as possible.”
Said Bradley Central head coach Damon Floyd:”The things we talk a lot about is just do your job, and that comes from Bill Belichick. We want each player to do their job. Yeah I copy a lot of quotes. We’ve got a lot of quotes hanging everywhere. Try to get in those guys minds and make them remember it.”
Said Ridgeland head coach Craigh Pritchett:”I think Lou Holtz was the one that said it. My favorite quote as a coach for the players is we’re not here to be ordinary. We’re not put here to be ordinary.”
Said Heritage head coach E.K. Slaughter:”I’m not a big quote guy. We do a lot of intentional leadership training. Like this month they are spending the whole month on how to teach mental strength.”
Said Baylor head coach Erik Kimry:”We have a lot of different philosophies and quotes and things to use, but the theme of our team is to struggle well.”
Reporter:”How come?”
Said Kimry:”Because that’s life man.”
Reporter:”Are you a big quote guy by any chance.”
Said Ooltewah head coach Goose Manning:(chuckles)”No. I don’t think so. I played for Ken Sparks at Carson Newman, and I always joked. He called everybody babe. He said hey babe. Come on babe. We’ve got to get together babe. I like always messed with coach Sparks about it, and then here I am. I catch myself every now and then saying come on babe. Come on babe. Get you shot babe.”
Reporter:”Do you have any quotes you like to give players or are you a big quote guy? Anything in that world?”
Said LFO head coach Mac Bryan:”I don’t know about that. I think what you’ve got to try to do is win every day because every day is when you have to get better. You have to win every day. I tell our players a lot that everybody wants to win on Friday night. The question is who wants to win on Thursday afternoon July 14th?”
Said Meigs Co head coach Jason Fitzgerald:”The only quotes I ever used to get were ones you can’t repeat on camera. So uh no, there’s nothing that really sticks out like that.”
