High Tech Decking Keeps things Cool on Hot Days
CHATTANOOGA, TN –
Have you ever had that summer cookout where you walk across your deck, your feet are hot, your dog doesn’t want to join you? Those are both big negatives for me. Today we are featuring a new technology in composite decking that will keep your feet cooler and make your furry friends happy.
Trex decking is certainly not new to the market, and composite decking isn’t new tech but Jamie Breneman from Chattanooga Exteriors brought us a few samples with some good information.
According to Jaime “This technology reflects the sunlight and keeps your deck cooler. So the big, big knock on composite deck’s always been it gets hot. I can’t even go out there barefoot. You know, I’ve heard it all. And so just like everything will get hot, but this technology that’s in the coating of this board reflects the sunlight, which keeps it about 15 degrees cooler, depending on the temperature.”
The benefits of composite decking are that it doesn’t have to be stained and it’s backed by a 25 year warranty. When compared to other composites, this particular product stays 15 degrees cooler so you can enjoy your high end deck in the summer time and your furry friends won’t mind to join you either.
As someone who has a talent for setting things on fire, I did have to ask about what happens when a hot coal rolls out of my smoker and hits this high tech decking. Much to my wife’s satisfaction, Jamie says I will be okay.
PATRICK: So how does that compare to wood, is it 15 degrees cooler than wood or composite?
“It won’t catch on fire. I mean, obviously, get it out, pick it up, you know, and it probably will not do anything to it,” says Jaime. “But if there’s ever anything that it does to it, we have a special technique that we can use to come out and kind of get that burn mark out of it.”
