Highway 27 Yard Sale and its Unique Family Ties

If you’re looking for a bargain, look no further than Highway 27.

The Highway 27 Yard sale is now up and running.

The sale is happening the same time as the World’s Longest Yard Sale on Highway 127.

This marks the 13th year of the bargain sale.

“People were getting off track when they were doing the 127 and so it just kind of evolved from there”, said Kalie Taylor, who’s mother owns the Highway 27 Unique Gift and Thrift Shop.

Not to get confused with the World’s Longest Yard Sale that happens along Highway 127.

The Highway 27 sale brings a generation of family ties.

“My grandmother had yard sales all summer long. And we always noticed this time of year people coming through asking if they were still on the 127”, said BJ Sherlin who own the thrift shop.

Which prompted them to start their own version of the well known yard sale.

“Just being a family thing like that…my grandmother, my aunt, and my mom was yard sellers all the time. You know they’d set up as soon as it got warm.”

The shop is right across the street from the home where Sherlin’s family got their start, selling items right in their front yard.

“It’s basically almost like going to Wal-Mart. you just kind of have to look around a little harder”, said Taylor.

Taylor said the one stop shop is offering a breakfast menu and the all the money raise is going towards a great cause.

“Proceeds go to the South Walker Parent Committee. We’re trying to raise money for some extracurricular activities for the kids.”

Both the Highway127 yard sale and Highway 27 yard sale end on Sunday.
