Historical Replicas of Christopher Columbus Ships Come to The Scenic City
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- In 1492, Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue!
And he did it in three ships named the Nina, Pinta and the Santa Maria.
Authentic replicas of two of those ships are in Chattanooga at Ross’s landing for the next week or so.
The Nina and the Pinta are at the pier and welcoming visitors to see how those sailors lived.
The ships were built by hand and without power tools.
“Back in the day there was anywhere from twenty to thirty crew, um, on the Nina exactly there’s twenty four on the Pinta there was twenty six. And all crew worked, ate and slept out on the main deck. Down below you had a year’s worth of supplies, as well as livestock down below,” said Capt. Stephen Sanger.
The public is invited to tour the ships through November 27th.
It’s $8 for adults, 7 for senior citizens, and $6 for students.
The crew will also arrange for tours by school groups.
