Hixson Line Fueled by ‘Diesel’ Deason
Hixson, TN-(WDEF-TV) Athletes getting nicknames is not an uncommon thing to see, no matter the sport.
News 12’s Brian Armstrong tells about a local athlete athlete who worked hard and lost weight over the past few months.
Jeffrey ‘Diesel’ Deason: “I got it from Coach Rivers. My freshman year, he couldn’t pronounce my last name properly, so he called me Diesel.”
And the name Diesel has stuck for Jeffrey now, Diesel.
Said Diesel: “It’s better than my real name, to be honest with you, so I just go by it. When people ask what my name is, I just say Diesel.
What’s even more impressive about Diesel is his incredible weight loss.
Diesel: “I was 315 last year. I worked around 190 to 200.How I started doing it in wrestling and was watching what I eat, went on like a calorie deficit and worked out every day and just started cutting the weight.”
Shawn Cooley “He’s an extremely hardworking kid and very disciplined. As you can tell, he lost all that weight. Very disciplined kid. Hard Working, very smart, just comes to work every day and he’s done a really good job for us.”
As for why, it was to get healthy again,
Diesel: ” it’s just being big all my life, having the knee problems I did and losing the weight, I saw better performance in my health, and so I just continued doing it.Did you have to buy a whole new wardrobe? Yes, I have. I’ve went down from being a two X to a medium.”
Shawn Cooley “I wasn’t here for the very beginning of it, unfortunately. I wish I was. I’ve seen him since last spring, and he was a little heavier than he is now, but I’ve seen him. Just his discipline, it’s unreal. He’s really good in the weight room, works really hard, and it’s definitely paid off.”
And it’s lending itself to success on the field.
Diesel: “I’m a lot faster than I was when I was playing center. I could do a lot more and actually put what I’ve worked towards losing all that weight, and I can use it better.”
Shawn Cooley “He can move. He can move pretty good. So he’s really found a home, I think, as a guard, still learning the ins and outs of it. But when he understands it, he goes full speed and he makes good contact. So he’s done a really good job for us. They enjoy it sometimes.
Diesel: “They enjoy it.
They kind of wish I was a little bit bigger because the positions I play, but I make it work.”
