Homeless Chattanooga Veteran Gets Much Needed Surgery

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF) – A homeless veteran we first reported on two weeks ago is finally getting some much needed help.

Nolan Lucas says a local doctor will fix his shoulder that he injured while serving in the Army.

He’s been waiting on the surgery for months.

Lucas says the VA clinic in Chattanooga pushed back his appointments several times.

His surgery is scheduled for Wednesday morning, but he tells us he worries about the long recovery time since he still doesn’t have a place to sleep.

Lucas adds, "I have not received a call from the mayors office, I have not been offered any help from the mayors office, nor from anybody else, as that goes. If he is able to institute some program that the VA will fall in line with, then God bless him because there are a lot of us that are out here."

Lucas says it will take him up to a year to fully recover.

If you would like to help Lucas out with food or shelter, you can contact our station.
