Honoring First Responders: A Day to Recognize Bravery and Commitment
October 28th is National First Responders Day; this is a time to recognize the dedication and bravery of those who serve our communities in emergencies.
These heroes are often the first to arrive at the scene of emergencies, providing critical care and support.
News 12 had the opportunity to speak with Amy Maxwell from Hamilton County EMS about the vital role these heroes play in our lives.
“We do it because we care about people; we do it because we care about their lives and property. Here in emergency management, we wear many different hats, including those of volunteer fire departments and all the career departments in Hamilton County. On behalf of emergency management, we appreciate all of our departments here in Chattanooga,” said Amy Maxwell from Hamilton County EMS.
From emergency medical technicians to firefighters, these heroes train tirelessly to ensure they’re prepared for any situation.
“When we come in every morning, we don’t know what will happen. We don’t know if somebody’s house is going to burn to the ground, or if we’re going to be performing life-saving measures on an adult or a child. It’s a great feeling when we can save those lives, but sometimes they can’t be saved, and that takes a toll on first responders,” said Amy Maxwell from Hamilton County EMS.
