Horror Movie Director Jeff Burr dies at his home in Dalton

DALTON, Georgia (WDEF) – A horror movie specialist has died at his home in Dalton.

Jeff Burr was 60 years old.

The Dalton Daily Citizen reports he directed the first film that was ever shot in Dalton, From A Whisper To A Scream in 1987 (featuring Vincent Price.)

But Burr made his real mark in Hollywood with horror franchises.

He directed several sequels in the genre for the Puppet Master, Pumpkinhead and Stepfather series.

But his best known project was Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III in 1990.

His IMDB page has 28 entries, including episodes of Sid and Marty Krofft’s Land of the Lost and the movie Eddie Presley (about an Elvis impersonator) which had small parts for Quentin Tarantino and Bruce Campbell.

Burr returned to Dalton in 2020 to care for his mother, who the Burr Performing Arts Park is named for.
