House fire displaces family

Chattanooga, Tenn. (WDEF) – Just before 6:00pm, the Chattanooga Fire Department was called to 4605 Kemp Drive.

According to fire officials, 5 fire companies responded to the house fire and were able to bring the blaze under control. However, the fire department says the house had substantial damage.

Battalion Chief Rick Boatwright estimated the loss at $50,000.

Officials say two adults and a two-year-old child lived in the house.

Chief Boatwright said the fire, which is being ruled accidental, began in the kitchen before spreading to the attic.

According to Chief Boatwright, a stove eye that was left on ignited materials sitting on top of the stove.

The American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee have been called in to help the family.

Chattanooga Police, Hamilton County EMS and Chattanooga-Hamilton County Rescue were also on scene to provide assistance.
