How to Catch this Weekend’s Geminid Meteor Shower

(WDEF)  Stargazers can tune in for a spectacular show this weekend.  The Geminid Meteor Shower peaks this Saturday, December 13.
The Geminids promise to be one of the most active meteor showers of the year.
The Slooh Observatory says the meteor shower will peak Saturday night into the early Sunday morning hours.
Astronomers say you should be able to see 60-80 meteors per hour in rural areas during the peak time.
NASA calls for a predicted peak rate of 100 to 120 meteors per hour.
The Geminid Meteor Shower get its name because the meteors appear to originate from the constellation Gemini.
We should have an excellent viewing opportunity in the Tennessee Valley.  Skies will be partly cloudy Saturday night, but it will be chilly, with lows dropping into the lower 30s in many spots.
If you can’t get outside to see the show, you can watch the live broadcast by the Slooh Observatory here.  The live broadcast begins at 8:00pm EST.
You can also join a live webchat with NASA here.
