How to stay cool and keep your power bill down this summer

Summer is here and with that comes the heat. Locals are providing tips to keep you cool and maybe even save you a little bit of money.

As the summer heat approaches, the temperature will only go up from here. That is why it is important to know not only how to keep yourself cool but also your power bill. The American Red Cross and EBP are here to help with that.

The Red Cross issues advice to stay safe during extreme heat. Heat can be dangerous for anyone and that is why it is important to take 3 key steps while getting ready for it. Stay hydrated, stay cool and stay connected.

Also, look for signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, these can be serious problems if not watched carefully.

When a heat wave and a power outage happen at the same time, it can be even more dangerous. However, EPB is doing everything in their power to make sure that doesn’t happen.

“Long hot summers are part of living in Chattanooga, which is why we prepare all year around to make sure that our grid can handle the heat.” says Sophie Moore, Public Relations Specialist.

Due to the weather, unfortunately you will see a raise in your power bill but EPB is doing everything they can to keep it as low as possible.

“Will also be using energy storage this week so that with the interview we have stored, we can put that on the grid which lowers the cost. We pay for power and helps our customers save as well.” says Sophie Moore, Public Relations Specialist.

There is a reason for the higher prices, and EPB can only do so much.

“Even if you don’t change your thermostat at all this week it’s still gonna be working a lot harder than it was even last week your HVAC uses the most energy of any appliance in the house.” says Sophie Moore.

Thanks to the EPB’s Energy Pros, they let you know exactly how to lower the cost of your bill during the summer time.

We’re recommending that right now you’re keeping your thermostat set at 72° and then bumping it up 1° daily until you reach the highest you can go because right now the higher you set your thermostat the more money and energy you’re gonna save.” says Nate Thomasson, Energy Pro for EPB

If you need more information, EPB offers it for free.

“We offer the free information through EPB energy pros we’ve been pushing more information out recently so that people have the tips and tricks. They need to help save on their power bill this month.” says Sophie Moore.

Try your best to stay cool this summer and keep those bills down.
