Howard High student charged with having stolen gun on campus
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — A Howard High School student was arrested on Thursday for having a stolen gun on school property, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office said.
The student who was arrested is a juvenile, so authorities are not releasing their identity.
Howard school officials and the school resource officer learned about a verbal altercation on campus at around 1:20 p.m. on March 7. They were told someone involved in the altercation was armed.
They then removed the involved students and searched them. The HCSO said they then found a loaded .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol on one student. The sheriff’s office also said it was a stolen gun.
Authorities arrested that student and took them to the Juvenile Detention Center.
The student faces charges including carrying a weapon on school property and theft of property.
The SRO who made the arrest is a Chattanooga Police Department officer assigned to the HCSO School Resource Deputy Unit.
