Howard student charged with bringing gun to school

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – A School Resource Officer arrested a student at Howard High Wednesday afternoon on charges of bringing a gun on campus.

The SRO got the tip just after noon.

Officers located the student and say they found a loaded 9mm Taurus.

The student was taken to the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Center.

“The HCSO is committed to maintaining a safe learning environment for our children and school staff. Our SRO’s exhibit this commitment daily through the relationships they foster, mentoring, and mitigating incidents like this, which threaten a safe and healthy learning environment,” stated Chief Deputy Austin Garrett.
