Humane Educational Society pitches county for new facility
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – The Hamilton County commissioners meeting this morning was packed-out with supporters of the Humane Educational Society.
They were there as executive director Bob Citrullo made his case for county assistance in moving the facility from Highland Park to a new site at Randolph Circle and Benton drive near Access Road.
He estimates the cost would be about $10 million.
“I think it was received very well. Some of the commissioners had mentioned they’re coming out for a tour, I think that will really show, the situation that we’re in. You know it’s hard to tell from a picture, until you’ve entered the facility, and you get a first hand look and I think that will go a long way.”
Citrullo says the HES cares for about 3000 animals a year and that many of them are sick and need expensive medical care.
Several commissioners are planning to tour the facility before next week’s vote.
