Hundreds show up to place wreaths at National Cemetery

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Over four hundred volunteers showed up at the national cemetery this morning to help place wreaths on the graves of service men and women.

Last weekend more than 96 hundred veterans were honored WITH wreaths being placed on their gravesites by Wreaths Across America.

Because of additional support after that, they brought in an additional 16-thousand wreaths this morning.

Now, over half of the 42,000 headstones at the cemetery have wreaths.

Members of the Rolling Thunder Veterans Motorcycle group were there helping place the wreaths.

President Joe Duncan told us, “It gave me chills when I see all the, saw all the people coming in this morning it made me proud, of this community and surrounding areas that has supported.”

More volunteers will be needed again at 8 am on January 20th, to remove the live wreaths, which will then be disposed of in an Honor Burning.
