GBI says woman shot after chase is in serious condition

DALTON, Georgia (WDEF) – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation releases more information on the chase and shooting last night along I 75.

They say the male suspect is 56 year old Parrish Smaely from Jonesboro, Georgia.

Investigators are still trying to identify the woman.

Cleveland Police say they were caught shoplifting at a Kohl’s store in Cleveland.

They fled in a vehicle but were chased from Hamilton County to Dalton.

When troopers first forced the vehicle to stop, Smaely, who was driving, gave himself up.

But the female jumped into the drivers seat and continued on.

They forced the vehicle to stop again.

The GBI says the woman came out of the vehicle with two handguns and pointed it at the officers.

Multiple officers from Hamilton County and Tunnell Hill opened fire on her.

A Whitfield County deputy who was trained as a medic, treated her at the scene until she was flown to a Chattanooga hospital.

She is in serious condition.

Smaely was treated for minor injuries at the hospital and released.

For now, he is in Whitfield County, charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted offender and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Of course, more charges are pending.
