2024 Ig Nobel Prizes Honor Unusual Research Including Zebra-Striped Cows
The Annals of Improbable Science presented this year’s Ig Nobel Prize winners Thursday evening in Boston during the 35th First Annual ceremony. Nobel laureates handed out awards recognizing scientific research that makes “people laugh, then think.” Japanese researchers won the Biology Prize for discovering cows painted with zebra-like stripes were 50% less likely to be bitten by flies. Other notable winners included researchers who studied rainbow lizards’ pizza preferences in Togo and analyzed how alcohol affects foreign language speaking ability. William Bean received the Literature Prize posthumously for recording fingernail growth over 35 years. The ceremony featured “Digestion” as its theme with guest speakers and a mini-opera performance.
