Are These Parachuting Spiders Really That Scary?
Joro spiders are an invasive species heading up the East Coast toward New York City. These spiders are unique: They can use silk threads as a parachute and fly through the air. Fortunately, the Joro spider is fairly harmless. The spider can bite, but the venom is relatively ineffective against most humans and pets. The Joro spider has yellow and black stripes and was first spotted in the United States around 2010. The species is native to Asia. It’s unclear how its arrival will impact the ecosystems in New York and New Jersey. (newser)
