Attorney Suspended After AI Used Fake Cases
A Colorado lawyer has been suspended from the bar and fired from his firm after using Chat GPT to file a motion. Unfortunately, the AI chatbot used fake cases. Zachariah Crabill said he used ChatGPT because he was overwhelmed with his case load. “And it dawned on me: What if ChatGPT could do case load research for me?” Crabill said.
However, he did not check the bot’s work, and went so far as to blame a legal intern for the mistakes when a judge expressed concerns.
Instead of being deterred, Crabill has set up his own law firm which utilizes AI, called Av{AI}lable Legal Solutions. (dailymail.co.uk)
