‘Call Of Duty’ Co-Creator Vince Zampella Dies At 55 In Ferrari Crash

Vince Zampella, co-creator of the Call Of Duty video game franchise, died Sunday in a single-car accident near Los Angeles at age 55. The crash occurred around 12:45 p.m. on Angeles Crest Highway in the San Gabriel Mountains when Zampella’s Ferrari struck a concrete barrier and caught fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene, while a passenger died later at a hospital. Zampella co-founded Infinity Ward with Jason West in 2002, developing the original Call Of Duty in 2003 as a rival to Medal Of Honor. After being fired by Activision, he co-founded Respawn Entertainment in 2010, which EA later acquired. The studio created hit games including Titanfall, Apex Legends, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Call Of Duty became the world’s third best-selling video game franchise after Mario and Tetris, selling over 500 million copies and generating more than $30 billion in revenue. (Story URL)
