Darth Vader’s Original Lightsaber Fetches Record $3.6 Million At Auction

An anonymous Star Wars collector paid $3.6 million for Darth Vader’s original lightsaber at a Propstore auction in Los Angeles, setting a new record for the highest amount ever paid for a Star Wars prop. The screen-matched weapon was wielded by the late David Prowse during filming of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, including the iconic “No, I am your father” scene where Luke Skywalker discovers his true parentage. The lightsaber shows visible battle damage from production, with chips and cracks still present from filming. Stunt double Bob Anderson also used the prop during select fight sequences. (Newser)
