Elephants Have Names

Researchers from Colorado State University have discovered that elephants give one another names! Scientists analyzed hundreds of elephant calls from national reserves and found that the animals assigned unique sounds to themselves to address certain individuals. When their names were “called”, elephants responded or approached the speaker. Naming in this way is considered a higher-level cognitive skill. (Study Finds)
