Fifteen Injured In San Francisco Cable Car Accident After Abrupt Stop

Fifteen passengers suffered injuries when a San Francisco cable car suddenly stopped Monday afternoon. The San Francisco Fire Department reported passengers were “tossed around inside the cable car” during the incident. Twelve people required hospital transport, with two suffering minor visual trauma and ten experiencing bumps and bruising. Three passengers declined medical transport. Emergency crews used nine ambulances to take victims to various hospitals. Passenger Willa Meade, 20, told The San Francisco Chronicle: “We were just on our way uphill and then it genuinely just like stopped really hard.” She added, “everyone just flew in the air and started screaming.” One injured man was “bleeding from his neck and head and shouting for help,” Meade said. The San Francisco Municipal Railway and police are investigating the cause. (Story URL)
