Finnish City Blasts Classical Music To Keep Youths Away From Beach

For six years, the Finnish city of Espoo blasts classical music to prevent “youths” from partying on the beach. At the end of the school year, the beach was a hotspot for parties, but police swear the classical music tactic works. Authorities play pieces like Strauss’s “The Blue Danube” and Schubert’s “Ave Maria” to keep teens away after sunset. The strategy also seems to prevent piles of litter and broken glass. “It’s nice for families to come and swim here in the morning when the beach is clean,” Mikko Juvonen of the Western Uusimaa Police Department said.
