Girl Who Chews Hair Undergoes Hairball Surgery

A 9-year-old girl with a habit of chewing her hair recently needed surgery to remove a hairball from her stomach. Sophia Goss of the U.K. began pulling out her hair when she was just 18 months old, her mother said. “She would do it as she was falling asleep,” mother Megan Sayce said. A recent visit to the hospital revealed the girl had a hairball filling her entire stomach. After a four-and-a-half hour surgery, the mass was removed. “Just chewing or sucking on the hair can cause the problems,” Sayce said. “Parents should keep an eye on your children, go to the doctors and push them for answers.” (People)
